Our first GO Rome blog comes from Hailey Stafford, a rising junior at Miami University!
It seems nearly impossible that we are already ending our first week here in Rome with Go Global. Somehow strangers have already become friends, unfamiliar streets have become our daily beat, but the beauty and history of our beloved Roma never ceases to be absolutely astonishing. Here’s 10 things you’ve probably thought in the past week as told by the (somewhat hilarious) faces of the classical art that is currently filling our lives (along with plenty of pizza of course).
HOW YOU FEEL AFTER THE TRANS-ATLANTIC PLANE RIDE
At this point you feel like you just came out of one of those light-year-freezing-sleep-tanks from Interstellar. You are that weird mix of alert and asleep due to being in a foreign country and the lack of sleep due to the beautiful symphony that is the snoring man, crying baby, and coughing people on a plane.

This is that moment where you decide that even though you have just learned how to be street smart in Italy that somehow you will forget all the logic you have accumulated during your 20-something years of existence and somehow end up on a Sunday night 60 minute special: TAKEN IN ROME. In reality you’re totally fine, just be thankful this moment passed for you, whereas your mother can never really let this feeling go. (P.S. Remember to call and tell her you’re alive once a day and NEVER stop saying thank you!)

As our sleep schedules finally adjust and we learn how to beat the heat in the streets of the Eternal City, an even more mind-baffling thought looms in the back of our minds: we only have 28 days left.
So though your feet may be swollen and your shoulders burned, remember don’t just exist as a passerby, don’t give up any opportunity to connect with these people and this city, and most importantly, DON’T JUST GO, GO ROME!
